Meditation Summit County is a non-sectarian Buddhist group that offers weekly classes in meditation skills, affordable monthly weekend retreats, and personal meditation guidance for those who want it. All levels of practice are included, from beginners with no experience at all, through advanced practices and techniques.

Each class includes a guided meditation, talk and discussion concerning a specific meditation skill or practice technique. At the end, there is a question and answer period. As directed by the Buddha, a combination of both calming and special insight practices are used to give the practitioner the tools for a complete practice that enhances daily life and leads to greater personal freedom and happiness. The Buddha emphasized that calming was essential as a basis for insight, but that insight was essential for the growth of wisdom and understanding leading to true peace and inner joy.

The classes center around the heart of the Buddha’s teachings about how to liberate ourselves from the sufferings and frustrations of life through deep understanding of body, vedana (feeling tones or involuntary first reactions), and mind. In addition, meditation techniques are offered to increase our capacity for equanimity, joy, compassion and loving kindness.

Although there is usually a series of classes on a particular topic or area of interest, each class is structured to be understandable to all levels of practitioner, including beginners, and to be complete in itself without reference to outside reading or information covered in previous classes.

Our teachers have many years of study and meditation experience to their credit, and each has completed several long retreats. In addition, all of them are Westerners with a native understanding of Western culture and of how the demands and effects of modern-day life impact meditation practice. All are native speakers of English and approach the classes in a spirit of mutual give and take, sharing and learning, without the formal, ritualized relationship of teacher to student that has become the norm is much of the Buddhist world.

As a non-profit organization, our goal is to make these skills and this information available to those who are interested at the lowest possible cost. Drop in for a free first visit, or contact us for more information  info@MeditationSummitCounty.com or 970-513-6586.
